Some time ago I visited Larnaca, Cyprus. I used Decode car hire Larnaca to explore this amazing city. The staff of this company kindly provided me with the following information, which is very useful for people, who prefer traveling by car.
Driving Guide for Cyprus Driving in Cyprus might be different from your home country. The most important factor to remember is that traffic flows on the left side of the road. If you are coming from the UK, this will not be a problem. For all drivers, that are accustomed to right hand traffic, need to be aware of this difference. The roads are in generally good condition, but the drivers are sometimes quite erratic. Be especially careful of people operating motor bikes because they have a common disregard for the rules of the road. Driver’s License Type of License EU licenses - All are acceptable to drive in Cyprus Non-EU licenses - Almost all are acceptable to drive in Cyprus All licenses -Must be valid in the country of issuance -Must be for a driver that is 18 years old or over Almost every license from around the world is valid to drive in Cyprus. You should check with your country’s embassy in Cyprus to verify that your license is acceptable. It is always a good idea to have and international driving permit (IDP) if you are from a non-EU country. Speed Limits Urban roads (built up areas) - 50km/h Rural roads (minor highways) - 80km/h Major highways - 100km/h The speed limit signs are always posted in kilometers per hour (km/h). The above table is a general guide and you should always adjust your speed if the sign requires. Many locals do not obey the posted limits and it will be tempting to drive fast. You need to resist the lure because if you are caught speeding, you will pay a fine. Rules of the Road Flow of traffic -Always drive on the LEFT side of the road -Only overtake cars in the right hand lane -Always yield to cars on your right at an intersection The Driver -May not have a blood alcohol content (BAC) over .04% -May only use a hands free mobile phone system -May not smoke in the vehicle if there are passengers under 16 -Is advised to use headlights at all times Passengers -Everyone in the car must wear a safety belt -Children under 5 may not sit in the front seat -Children under 10 years old must be in the proper safety seat It is very important that you are always on the lookout for imprudent drivers. Some of the people driving motorbikes do not follow the rules very closely and you need to be aware of their presence. The drinking and driving laws are different in each part of the country but as a general rule you need to be under .04% BAC. The rules of the road are similar in Cyprus as for the countries in Europe. Click here to see the signs that dictate the flow of traffic. It is very important to follow all of the road signs even though many drivers do not. You will keep yourself safe and out of trouble if you adhere to the rules of the road. Parking in Country Monday - Saturday - Variable - 0.35 EUR – 0.50 EUR/hour Sundays - All day - FREE (1.00 EUR = 0.85 GBP, 1.40 USD) The parking situations and prices are different throughout the country. In the big cities you will find that the parking prices are very cheap and the spaces are reasonably available. Make sure you leave your car in a legal position so you will not be given a ticket. All of the parking signs are written in English as well as Greek so you should not have a problem figuring them out. The hours of operation are clearly printed on the signs and usually end by 22:00. In the afternoon on Saturdays and all day Sundays, parking is free. The prices for parking in public lots are usually more expensive than the street. There is some small added security when you park in a guarded lot, but generally street parking is safe. *Information on this page is accurate as of June 26, 2009. RE: Car Hire Larnaca
Hey man I need car on hire for about 6 month for my research here in Europe. It would be better if I get Suvs on hire. And also I have a question about the driving on the street. Can I drive car here with the license of Asia and what about the third person insurance if in the case of car crash. And do I need to pass through some document to drive car here in Europe.
